Basic Lofting Course Price

Lofting, where science meets art!

This is the must do course for anyone who has ever dreamed of building there own boat but has balked when they have come to the part where the boat will need lofting, this course will help you to de-mystify what all the lines mean and how you can go about doing your own lofting with confidence once you have participated and finished the Lofting Course at the Sherbrooke Shipbuilding Shop.

Attending the Sherbrooke Shipbuilding Shop Basic Lofting Course is also a great way to boost your career prospects should you wish to go on and find work in this amazing industry or you may just wish to know more about Lofting explained in the course by an experienced time served Loftsman, who has worked in the industry.

Each 30 hour course can be adapted to suit but is recommended to be done over the 5 day allocated period for each course.

There can be little doubt that lofting is an essential skill for any boat/shipbuilder to learn, and once mastered, means you can attempt the build of any boat for which there are plans for. Much more than that you should be able to understand drawings and be in a better position to understand the shape of a vessel and how to approach the build process better.

Lofting is not easy and you are not going to learn all about it with a one week course when it took Ron “The Loftsman” a 4 year apprenticeship and many more years of doing before becoming competent in the subject, but with your enthusiasm and willingness to learn

Offset tables, diagonals, waterlines and buttock lines will all become the wonderful tools they are in the understanding of Lofting

During this week you can learn enough to be reasonably confident in the subject and you will be able to hold your own in discussions about Lines, Lofting and Half Hull Models with the best of them.

Attendees do not need any previous experience just a keen interest is enough as the main focus of the course is to give you an understanding of lofting and its crucial part in boat/shipbuilding design and build.

Even in this day of CAD once you have the basics of lofting they can help you achieve the desired results on the computer.

Brigantine Lines Plan

Lofting takes time and concentration, and a good teacher really helps and with Ron “The Loftsman” who is a Loftsman and served his apprenticeship as a Loftsman You will learn the skills required to enable you to comprehend the boat/ship plans which before may have just been too intimidating. Well I will tell you right now that it can be done.

By the end of my course you will be able to visualise what the boat should look like and to lay down her lines, and you will be able to talk about plans and not feel intimidated about being unable to comprehend the Lofting process involved in bringing these plans to life full size on the Lofting floor.
My Lofting course is a learning by doing process you only need to know how to apply yourself and don’t forget to bring your enthusiasm with you. And there is also quality accommodation on offer along with the courses staying at the Sherbrooke Village Inn Motel a short two minute walk to the “Shipbuilding Shop & Mould Loft” so you and your significant other should you choose can also have a vacation in what is one of the most beautiful parts of the world, a real undiscovered gem.
